Our Curriculum
Our intent is to provide every member of the school community with the opportunity to achieve his or her true potential and ambitions. This is achieved through a broad, balanced curriculum matched to pupil’s individual needs including entitlement to the National Curriculum. The environment we create is stimulating and challenging yet supportive, secure and caring. Our curriculum is best defined through our motto ‘Safe, Happy, Learning > Towards Independence’. Pupils are taught in an atmosphere of positive recognition where each person’s individuality and talents receive encouragement and nurture.
Our curriculum provides opportunity for our pupils to discover and develop their personal interests and talents, in that they know more, remember more and are able to do more
Our curriculum builds self confidence and celebrates success in every form. Encompassing significant academic achievements, individual personal achievements, and team achievements
Our curriculum provides a range of qualification and certification opportunities that ensure pupils are equipped for ongoing success beyond school
Our curriculum adapts to meet the individual needs of pupils with positive interventions supporting our pupils succeed both at school and beyond
To see our curriculum in action please look at our Newsletters, which every two weeks celebrate our pupils achievements.
Routes to Learning
Our pupils come to Sutton School with varying levels of prior attainment. In response to pupil’s individual needs we identify their most appropriate learning route and as a result can offer a range of qualifications targeted at success and independence by Y11.
Subject Overviews
Our subject overviews are available below. They detail subject content for each route and year group, for each half term of the school year. Also included is information about the subject knowledge and skills to be learnt. For all our pupils we have a clear vision of their learning journey, route based destination expectations are therefore also included so that as a parent/carer you understand the outcomes targeted for your child.
